Same-Sex Marriage and the Supreme Court Decision

Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states grieves my soul beyond spoken words.  Here is why I am saddened by the SCOTUS decision.

First, same-sex marriage is not God’s will for the human race.  Genesis 1:27 and 28 teaches, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Gen 1:27-28 ESV)

Second, I am grieved by the flawed human logic exercised in this decision and by the throngs of supporters for same-sex marriage.  (1) The decision defies State rights.  (2) It also opens the door to any form of sexual perversion (I include heterosexual extra-marital affairs among the list of perversions). This weak logic can now be applied to a man who wants to marry a boy or a man who marries many wives.  Such logic is evidence of the darkness of the human heart.   “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works are evil.” (Joh 3:19 ESV)

Third, if there is a lesson to be learned from Israel in the Bible is that wickedness has it’s consequences and the nation and her people suffer dearly for it.    “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Pro 14:34 ESV) People might be waiting for thunder bolts from heaven or earthquakes and tidal waves.  God sometimes works that way but mostly he lets people rush head long into their sin. “And the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.  And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”  (Rom 1:27-28 ESV)

My fourth reason for deep sadness in America today is what’s coming to believers.  We will be forced to violate our conscience informed by the Word of God.  Like Martin Luther when asked to deny His God-besotted works on God’s gospel and the sins of the church, he said, “I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen.”  Chief Justice Alito who wrote a dissenting opinion aptly said, “I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools.”

Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters prepare to suffer censorship and persecution.  There is no peaceful co-existence in the new position handed down by the Supreme Court.  The last voice–the churches’ voice will be challenged, silenced and finally destroyed.  I expect to be arrested in my life time. I full expect my children, if they hold to biblical values, will give their lives as martyrs for Christ.
